MacBook Pro Refresh

Today, Apple announced a refresh to the MacBook Pro lineup. It includes “three very big leaps forward.”

Core i5 and i7 Processors + Sandybridge

Apple has been offering the i5 and i7 in their desktops since Intel’s announcement of the i5 + i7. iMac customers have been loving the high-power. Now, MacBook Pro customers can experience the same power of Intel’s newest chips.

AMD Radeon Graphics Processor

AMD makes some of the best graphics processing units in the world. In my opinion, better then NVidia. The new chip is “3x faster than the previous model’s.” That’s a slap in the face, NVidia. Now, you can do HD Movie editing, and even CAD wherever you can bring a MacBook.

Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is a brand new I/O hookup that is is blazing fast. 10gb/second fast. That’s incredible. Apple’s website says:

Imagine accessing multiple streams of uncompressed HD video — from your notebook — at speeds that let you edit an HD feature film in real time. That’s how Thunderbolt technology will connect the next generation of high-performance peripherals to the next generation of computers…

It’s an incredible new interface for high powered devices such as some heavy duty external hard drives, or possibly next generation Internet hookups for blazing fast speeds? Who knows what developers and manufacturers will use this for, all’s I know is that it’s going to ba amazing.

Other Upgrades

-High Definition front facing camera used for FaceTime. Records and streams at 720p

-Even longer lasting battery life. Apple claims 7 hours of moderate use.

-Slightly larger multitouch trackpad

-SDXC Compatible Card Slot

-No more Firewire 400. The space is replaced with a 3rd USB Port.

There you have it. The new Macbook Pro line in a nutshell.
